Recap

A quiet, unsettling recruitment game begins with a masked man questioning people and recording tiny details: their shoes, pauses, and glances toward the exit. He calls it “surveying the terrain.” Soon, selected people start receiving calls and instructions from an unseen force known as Q.

Ruben and Juni are among the first drawn in. They’re given an account with strict rules: they can contribute only a small amount of their own money, must earn the rest, and have to document every deposit. Siri reviews the records, Zelda judges them, and the participants are also secretly testing one another. Ruben is pushed particularly hard; after being found outside a police station, he discovers a confession in his notebook that he didn’t write. Then his place on the board is left empty.

Chris takes up the thread and is offered a chance to lead a public cathedral ceremony. The choice is stark: split the money and stop, or put it toward something larger and continue. Chris and Juni both choose to continue—but Chris disappears, and the ceremony never happens. A month of silence follows, leaving the story’s missing pieces deliberately unexplained.

When calls resume, Q announces that the board has changed and that a queen has emerged from it. The game now has two sides. Oskar is tasked with keeping a record of people, tasks, deviations, and trust; Ruben tracks the money; Juni gets the old account and uses it to test people. Lykka and Dante receive a particularly cryptic challenge: do the same favour for three people, while one is supposed to know it will pay and the other is not. Both carry it out. The narrator underlines the central twist: being on the “dark” side doesn’t necessarily mean being an enemy.

The rules stay opaque. Q’s calls are deliveries, not conversations; Q never identifies the caller, only sometimes clarifies who it isn’t. Birdy’s posts are written in advance and acquire meaning later. No one gets the complete picture—different people receive different parts, and some clues seem designed to resist being assembled.

A series of odd tests intensifies the mystery:

  • Juni gets only “Phase 4” when she asks which phase they’re in.
  • Zelda is given three things to do, though there are four.
  • Kenka must collect the final sentence from each call and finds four sentences, including one Q claims never to have said.
  • Another group is ordered to deny receiving a call—and all nine deny it.

The clearest puzzle points beneath the cathedral. Oskar, My, Juni, and Siri receive separate pieces of a message, while the key is to take the last letter of each sentence. The result is “UNDER KATEDRALEN.” The four go there on October 15, leaving the others unaware. In the catacombs, they find a recently placed book marked:

STILL STANDING. RECAP. NOT FINISHED.

Meanwhile, the money game gets more tangled. Juni is told to recover money through debts, while Ruben discovers that the account he built has moved without Juni knowing he knows. He’s also told to keep 10,000 kronor for himself, while Juni receives a conflicting instruction concerning that same sum. Both orders are real. A police officer is pulled into the mystery after reading Birdy’s posts and is told to ask Ruben whether he has finished counting.

Deviations—previously just recorded—now have a price. A fund is created, with Siri receiving contributions and Oskar receiving reports. It reaches 87,500 kronor, including 60,000 from someone who never even received the relevant call. Nothing is paid out.

The final sequence launches Phase Five with eight simultaneous calls. Six recipients form a ring, each trying to find out what someone else was told while being warned not to reveal their own instructions. Roger counts the call recipients; Zowie is the eighth, but nobody is looking for her. Juni receives a unique clue: “The dark king is carried there.” Everyone gets the same closing message:

Not tonight. You will understand when it is time. Then you will hear my own voice.

Juni counts twelve pieces, but Q warns that twelve is not full.

The city closes the next morning. After three months, more than sixty calls, around twenty meetings, a notebook, a book, and an untouched fund, the board is still incomplete. The cathedral ceremony has not happened, Phase Five is explicitly “not tonight,” and the promised voice has yet to be heard. The recap ends where it began: not finished.
