In 1942, the 22nd Polish Artillery Company travels through the mountains of Iran en route to fight the Nazis. During a stop in a town, a young Iranian shepherd offers to trade with them: in a burlap sack is an orphaned Syrian brown bear cub, captured after its mother was killed by hunters and kept in a crude, “low-tech Pokéball” until trade time.

Realizing the opportunity is too good to pass up, the soldiers accept the deal and adopt the cub into the unit as a soldier-bear named Voytech.

How the Unit Raises Voytech

The video emphasizes how the company treats Voytech like an enlisted member, including:

• Feeding him condensed milk from an empty vodka bottle
• Giving him “cartoon bear” food such as fruit, honey, and marmalade

For his performance and bravery, he is promoted to corporal. The unit also updates its insignia to show a bear carrying an artillery shell.
