Summary

Blair Willows is a kind, hardworking waitress who dreams of giving her mother and little sister, Emily, a better life. When Emily secretly enters Blair in Princess Charm School’s scholarship lottery, Blair wins a place as a Lady Royal trainee. She nearly refuses because of her responsibilities at home and her doubts about fitting in among princesses, but her mother encourages her to go.

Charm School is a whirl of glamorous classes, sparkling supplies, and awkward mishaps. Blair’s clumsiness gets her into trouble, especially with the snobbish Princess Delansancy and her mother, Dame Devon. From slipping on the floor to struggling with poise and dance, Blair often feels out of place. Her new friends, Hadley and Isa, support her, while Headmistress Privet helps her build confidence by reminding her that being a princess is about character, not a crown. Blair’s perseverance shines in the upbeat song “On Top of the World.”

The laughs continue through classes and school life. Blair jokes that she’s “like a burp in a symphony,” a botched uniform becomes a clever redesign, and the girls’ over-the-top school cheer is more enthusiastic than polished. There are also pratfalls involving the palace dog, Prince, and a hilariously elaborate attempt to delay Delansancy’s coronation with invented royal protocols—including spinning seven times and hopping on one foot.

During a palace visit, Blair and her friends find a portrait that looks just like Blair. They learn that she was found as a baby on the very day the royal family supposedly died, and begin to suspect she is Princess Sophia, Gardennia’s missing heir. The girls search for the kingdom’s magical crown, which is said to glow for the true heir, but Dame Devon frames Blair and her friends for stealing jewelry and has them detained. Delansancy secretly helps Blair escape, and Blair reaches the coronation in time to challenge her rival.

The crown confirms Blair’s identity, and Dame Devon’s scheme is exposed: she admits to arranging the royal family’s downfall so Delansancy could eventually rule. Blair becomes Princess Sophia, but shows compassion by choosing Delansancy as her Lady Royal and giving her a chance to make amends.

At the celebration, Hadley finally performs her music, Blair reunites with Emily and her mother, and the family gets to move into the palace. The story closes with songs celebrating friendship, belonging, and the idea that a princess’s most important qualities come from within.
