Summary

Yan Xiaochen introduces herself as an unusually hardworking student. While her classmates enjoy campus life, she juggles part-time jobs to cover her expenses. Her dream of someday wearing a wedding dress contrasts with the practical burdens she already carries.

At a basketball game, Xiaochen sells water to the players. When one student complains about the price and refuses to pay, Shen Hou steps in, buys the remaining bottles, and hands them out. Shen is a popular basketball star, and his friend Bian Wenchao later dares him to ask a girl out. Shen chooses Xiaochen, but she rejects his invitation, reminding him that buying her water doesn’t mean she owes him a meal.

The dare becomes a running joke as Bian keeps urging Shen to pursue Xiaochen. Shen tries different approaches, including asking her to tutor him and offering her meals and gifts. Meanwhile, Xiaochen’s roommate Wu Qianqian has feelings for Shen and grows uncomfortable with the attention he gives Xiaochen. Another roommate calls out Qianqian’s unfair criticism.

After some mixed signals—including Xiaochen apparently admitting she likes Shen—he asks her to be his girlfriend. She checks whether he is still acting on a bet. Shen insists he is serious, and Xiaochen says yes. Their new romance immediately has to compete with her work: she is late to meet him after being called in for an extra shift. Shen complains that she always puts her job first, then offers to help.

Family Pressures

The episode also hints at Xiaochen’s family pressures. Her father tells her younger sister, Xiaoxiao, that he will help her get into her preferred college. Meanwhile, a woman named Liu Qingfang demands money and threatens the family after Xiaochen’s father loses money gambling. Xiaochen continues working to make ends meet.

Basketball Match

At the end, Xiaochen arrives for a basketball match between Shen’s team and the Finance Department. Shen plays hard, the teams clash, and Finance wins. The episode closes with an unanswered call to Shen, leaving their next moment together uncertain.
