Recap

Linen Harris wakes in a fantasy world with the memories of his former life—and a remarkable gift called Deduction, which lets him analyze magic and learn it far faster than normal. As the illegitimate son of Count Rainard, he’s overshadowed by his talented half-siblings: kind priestess Alicia and golden-boy holy knight Alfred.

Linen quietly studies magic, first mastering Ice Arrow, then developing a dark fog spell that helps him defeat Alfred through speed, traps, and tactics rather than brute force. His first alchemy experiment is less impressive: a potion gives Alfred hallucinations so vivid that he hugs a training dummy and calls it “big sister.” The potion does work, though, so Alfred’s fury soon gives way to an eager search for more.

When Rainard exiles both sons as barons, Linen is sent to Maple Ridge, a poor, monster-plagued backwater. He travels with ten knights, a few servants, and 27 carts of books—but only 3,000 gold. Bandits ambush the convoy on the way, giving Linen his first taste of danger outside his family’s protection. His new home is a crumbling fort surrounded by neglected villages, ruined farmland, broken roads, and recurring monster attacks.

Linen turns the wasteland into a construction project. His capable housekeeper Violet rebuilds the administration and economy, while knight commander Calvin restores the defenses and trains a militia. Linen uses Deduction to create a magic-gathering array, grow potion ingredients, locate mineral deposits, improve farming, and invent enchanted armor. He even develops jade charms that let ordinary workers cast farming spells—a breakthrough that helps expand farmland and produce a huge grain surplus.

His inventions keep escalating: magic armor for the knights, a flying sword, powerful spells, and a blizzard that helps crush the annual monster raid. Pills made from magic plants let 60 former peasants awaken as knights, while literacy classes and an academy begin giving ordinary people new opportunities. Maple Ridge grows from an abandoned fort into a functioning territory with roads, mines, schools, trade, and a trained army.

The biggest surprise in the early kingdom-building phase is the “dragon problem.” A juvenile red dragon named Carlos is causing a brutal heat wave simply because he can’t control his fire. Linen blasts him with layered blizzards, and Carlos retreats—only to return and watch the construction crews. He turns out to be a harmless, building-obsessed orphan. Linen tries to teach him magic, discovers Carlos has no spell-casting talent, and redirects him into hauling stones. The dragon becomes a very effective construction worker.

Linen’s experiments also change his appearance. He uses a dark-elf ingredient to make a longevity pill, gaining a dramatically extended lifespan and gradually developing elf-like features. When summoned back to his family, he reunites with Alfred and joins him in a hilariously clumsy raid on their father’s treasury to steal a branch from the Tree of Life. Rainard catches them—but Linen realizes the vault’s defenses were far too strong for the theft to have gone unnoticed. His father seems to have allowed it, turning the “punishment” into a way to bind Linen to the family while letting him take the ingredient he needed.

The northern war brings new allies, new absurdities, and a startling display of Linen’s strength. He avoids a banquet until Alicia drags him into one, where a crowd of powerful female saints pinches his cheeks and plays with his hair while rival saints bicker and throw spells nearby. Linen escapes, deciding he’d rather fight orcs than attend another party. Later, he helps annihilate a large orc force with a chain of devastating spells—and learns that the banquet he skipped devolved into an all-out magical brawl. Alfred survives by hiding under a dessert table with pastries in hand.

Back home, Linen builds a star-energy formation from rare solar and lunar stones, providing Maple Ridge with a powerful new source of magic. The resulting energy surplus fuels magical farms, academies, factories, and a rapidly expanding military. He invents magic crystals, beam rifles, tanks, transports, and industrial machinery. The knights’ first tank exercises are so destructive that Calvin’s crew crashes through buildings and wrecks the barracks. Linen docks their pay and sends them to a remote valley to practice—while Carlos gets stuck cleaning up.

The kingdom-building comedy also gets a grim edge. Linen’s ancient tree begins growing after he bonds with it, eventually giving him a way to sense life and guide underground magic-crystal veins. At the same time, he uncovers a vast corruption spreading beneath the forests: purple, life-consuming growth that mutates monsters and generates a suffocating gray fog. He builds a massive border wall and installs hundreds of holy-light defenses. When the fog finally engulfs the surrounding land, Maple Ridge becomes an island under siege. Corrupted creatures attack the incomplete sections of the wall, but coordinated defenders, beam rifles, tanks, and light-attribute artillery hold them off.

Linen’s explorations reveal that the corruption is part of a far larger threat. Deep in the forest, a deranged dark mage named Mogrian is attempting to combine concentrated death energy with an elf he believes to be the Nature Goddess. Linen intervenes, but Mogrian sacrifices himself, destroys Linen’s sword formation, and forces the death essence into him. The elf saves Linen by drawing the death energy into her own vast life force, where the two opposing powers begin to balance and fuse. Linen survives, stronger than before, and realizes the elf is indeed Arya, a being of immense natural power.

In the aftermath, Linen blurts out the most awkward possible solution: “So, I’ll marry you.” Arya gives a faint nod. The two fly back toward Maple Leaf Castle together, leaving Linen with a goddess bride, a shattered sword formation, and a much bigger mystery about the corruption—and the strange power hidden in his own family bloodline.
