Volvo Service in Sacramento (Gearbox + Warranty Repairs)

• They go to their regular service center Altex, then visit a nearby Volvo dealership first for parts/diagnostics.

Notable people

• A Russian-speaking employee named Peter (also mentioned as a subscriber)

Diagnostics and symptoms

• Previously: gearbox errors causing “twitching/jerking,” then they disappeared.
• Diagnostics are run via computer.
• Main suspected issue: a gearbox component responsible for shifting gears, nearing failure.

Repairs performed (covered under warranty)

• Gearbox replacement: install an identical (nearly identical) new gearbox
• Additional parts changed:
  • Clutch (new)
  • Expansion reservoir / coolant components (leaking/dripping referenced)
  • Hoses:
    • long hoses plus other small hoses
  • Rear engine mounts (cracked/burst; changed when removing transmission)
  • Antifreeze/coolant filter
  • Two NOx sensors (each mentioned around $500)
  • A “control/brain” unit for gear shifting (module on the transmission side)

Important cause/condition note

They claim they were driving with low/no oil in the gearbox (oil drained previously and not refilled), and the error appeared only during shifting.

Cost details

• Warranty covers major components like the gearbox.
• They estimate paid work/paperwork totals around $4,000 (later also mention service equipment cost around $4,500).
• They compare it to replacing the truck:
  • Estimate: a new truck replacement could mean a monthly loan payment around $3,500/month

  • One turn signal LED had water ingress
  • Only ~50% of the LEDs lit; they replace it
